NBBA WORLD SERIES PLANNING GUIDE

FUNDING:

  1. Plan for a budget of at least $50,000.00.
  2. Not all items in your budget will be “paid for” items. Some will be donated (in-kind), others will be “sponsored”. Some items may be found at a lower cost than in your original budget. The bottom line, though, is BE PREPARED TO HAVE TO PAY FOR EVERYTHING IN YOUR BUDGET.
  3. An awards CEREMONY IS a requirement in your World Series. An awards BANQUET, however IS NOT a requirement.
    1. The NBBA will provide reimbursement for up to $750.00 for the awards specified in the guidelines. The host city is responsible for ordering and obtaining them for the ceremony. Any additional awards that are needed due to ties in the All-Tournament teams will also be paid for by the NBBA, if needed.
    2. The NBBA already has MEDALS for the All-Tournament team winners and the World Series Champion team. All plaques and trophies still need to be obtained.
    3. See guidelines for host city responsibilities if a banquet option is chosen.
  4. Ideas for fundraising include, but are not limited to the following: donations from local service organizations and businesses – in-kind or monetary (directly solicited using letters or other means), grant writing, selling ads for a program or banners at the fields/hotel or on buses, ‘Swinging with the Majors’ (a golf tournament/event with Major League Baseball Alumni – this will require advanced planning to get on their schedule – see the MLB website for details), restaurants offering a percentage of sales for patrons with flyers from your organization (i.e. Max & Erma’s, W.G. grinders, bw-3’s) – check with local restaurants for potential programs offered, grocery stores or other local stores that will allow you to sell gift certificates and receive a percentage back to your organization after spending a set dollar amount (i.e. Kroger Cares) – again, check with local stores in your area for potential programs offered, and the ‘Adopt-a-Ball’ program (see the NBBA website or contact the NBBA sec retary for more details).
